Honeymooning in Switzerland

by Debra Rubio last updated on 07/08/2008 Disclaimer

Switzerland is a great choice if a European honeymoon is your dream destination. In a time when the Euro is so high that most of us cannot afford Europe, Switzerland is affordable because they use their own currency, the Swiss Franc, which is a much better value for Americans. The entire country is simply spectacular with glaciers hanging from mountain peaks, beautiful valleys, and great cultural cities in between. Visualize Baroque townhouses, world-class art galleries, beautiful cathedrals, world heritage sites, and cobblestone streets. You can take any number of scenic train rides through the mountains, a boat ride on a pristine alpine lake or a tramway to the Jungfrau the "Top the World". The larger cities offer cool jazz cafes, hip designer bars, music venues, relaxed waterfront restaurants, and great shopping. Travel is safe and easy and the people are helpful and eager to please.

Besides the world famous snow skiing in winter, Switzerland is a haven for summer fun. Walking through the valleys offers fun for all types of travelers and for the more adventurous there is mountain biking and hiking.

Accommodations range from cozy mountain inns and bed and breakfasts to five star resorts. In addition, there are fairytale castles, mighty fortresses and romantic chateaux. One of my favorite memories is of the time I stayed at the Park Hotel Vitznau on the banks of Lake Lucerne with Mount Rigi in the background. I took a lake cruise over to the quaint village of Vitznau for a wonderful lunch and shopping. You have to experience the cogwheel train to the top of Mt. Pilatus.

Cuisine is more than just cheese and chocolate. Wine connoisseurs will enjoy the many wine regions that grow over 50 different varieties of grapes. The Valais ara alone makes over 500 local wines. Even though it’s a small country, there are four distinct regions each with their own language, culture and food. As you transverse the countryside you will experience the French, German and Italian influence in the various regions. Experience the culture of this warm and hospitable country.

As a Certified Swiss Specialist by the Switzerland Tourism Board I have first hand knowledge of the country and its unique resources. If you have any questions or would like to arrange your honeymoon please contact me!
